Signs of spring

We are in the midst of our winter now - plenty of frosts and COLD days. However, seems this little flower doesn't know what season it is....

Recipe: Lavender Sugar

Put into a glass jar: approx 1 tablespoon dried lavender flowers to 2 cups sugar. Shake to mix and store for a couple of days. The sugar picks up the flavour and aroma of the lavender. Can be used in biscuits, cakes, sprinkled on crepes - devine!
Bon appetit!

Meet Sam ...

the Eliminator! He can leap 2 rows of lavenders in a single bound and is as cute as a cute thing!! Partial to a little rabbit stew - his job is to keep rabbits on the lavender farm to a minimum.
And did I mention how cute he his?

Lavender "Super" which we harvested this week

Last harvest this weekend...

Weather permitting, we'll be harvesting the grosso either Sunday or Monday. We've had amazing weather this week - hot humid sunny days & late afternoon storms with some amazing lightening displays!! We've been harvesting for a couple of days this week. Our champion harvesters - Brian & Rose have out done us all as usual! and even on a day off, are still keen to get the lavender rubbings done. Sebastien promoted himself to chief harvester (as all the other brother-in-laws were absent) and put in some hot hard hours too - well done Seb!

Still a couple of days to see the Grosso before we cut.

Flowers really do intoxicate me - Vita Sackville-West

We think it will be about another 2 or 3 weeks until we harvest our main crop so still some time left to check them out. Looking GORGEOUS and smelling even better!

And so the harvest begins...

We have now begun the harvest, cutting our lavender that we grow specifically for dry. Our son Chris and his family (wife Sarah and daughter Maddie) are home from Perth on holiday and experiencing the harvest first hand for the first time. The lavender is cut into bunches and hung in our shed to dry. Once dry, we rub and sift it to get rid of the stalks and are left with the gorgeous purple flower heads that can be used in sachets etc to scent your drawers. We also sell a range of Beaudisse & Boodles products that use the dry lavender in heat packs, sleep pillows, eye masks and bonbons (drawer sachets).

We hope to start the main harvest (lavender which is cut and distilled to extract the oil) in the next few days, weather dependant. Do call out and watch the cutting and distilation process.
